Feeling unloved?
I used to feel unloved when my husband forgot to take the trash out.
I mean, it’s a simple thing, right? Why couldn’t he just do it?
There were a ton of ways I was feeling unloved… some of them all within me, others triggered by imperfect behavior on his part – and yes, I know there are certainly varying levels of that, some can be more damaging than others – but seriously, I didn’t know how to handle “the small things” at the time. So how could I possibly handle something bigger?
What’s also true is he had no ill-intent (like most Christian men) but instead of being patient, I internalized and personalized and made it about ME in a negative way.
Insecure and immature on my part.
Didn’t know.
I was expecting HIM to do/say/be things to “make” me feel better.
Not his job, and btw, super unhealthy. I didn’t know that I was the one responsible for how I felt – and that he couldn’t MAKE me feel a certain way – MOST of that is internal…
We all have known people who are emotionally intelligent and strong. We CAN become those people – but NOT if we live as victims, making other people’s behavior the factor that determines our contentment or joy.
My overly sensitive nature was MINE – and since then I have learned to be a woman of strength and dignity.
Do my feelings get hurt still?
Hardly ever. And if something comes up, I quickly have a way of navigating that so I can facilitate a different outcome.
Generally speaking, now, the imperfections of another human have next to no impact on how I feel about myself or them.
Why?
Because God has healed my broken heart, set my captive thinking free, and brought sight to my blind spots.
And I have had the great privilege of walking with many others as He does that for them, too.
And it literally changes everything!
An unhealed woman gets her feelings hurt over too many things.
An unhealed woman is useless at calling her husband up to a higher level of being, in a way that actually works – she can’t even see the opportunity. (Most lead with complaint and criticism – it has never worked so STOP)
An unhealed woman cares more about what other people think or might say than what God might.
It’s a horrible, trapped existence.
No one needs to stay stuck in that suffering.
