Strength and Dignity 101

She is clothed in strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. (Proverbs 31:25)

There are times when I don’t want to be a grown up.

Given the fact that I have three kids, a husband, a house, a ministry, and countless other responsibilities, that’s a difficult requirement of life to ignore…that whole, “be a grown up” thing.

In an effort to continue down this path in a way that not only grows me (because we never fully grow up, do we?) but might encourage someone else, I’m going to start publicly sharing the path of wisdom I’ve followed for ten years. I copied this idea after a lovely mentor and friend of mine let me know what Billy Graham does daily. I figure, if it’s good enough for him, it should be good enough for me.

I should also add that I have much room for growth in the wisdom department, and too often, act like my artificially-induced, used-to-be-natural hair color. J

Anyway, this path is reading the book of Proverbs from the Bible, commonly considered, “the book of wisdom.” Billy Graham also reads five chapters from the book of Psalms each day.

We’re going to start smaller, but feel free to do both.

So for a while, we’re going to “read the date” together (when Graham “read the date,” ie: July 1st, he read Proverbs 1). I’ll put up what hits me, and provide you with the day’s verses. Today, I’m asking you to prepare your heart.

We start tomorrow.

And in a confirming response to what I feel led to do, God gave me this verse:

Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts upon them, may be compared to a wise man, who built his house upon the rock. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and burst against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock. (Mt. 7:24-25 NAS)

And even though I titled my post today, “Strength and Dignity 101,” I wrote it last night. And Proverbs 31:25 was also in today’s devotional reading for me, along with Matthew 7:24-25. SO, needless to say, this morning, I added Matthew 7:24-25 and sense His approval and pleasure with what we’re about to do together. J

Glad to be on the journey to living life on a Solid Foundation with you. J

Ha! Proverbs is the best every month of the year – let’s do this together, girlfriend! For He has magnified His word above all His name (Psalm 138:2)

Love you, daughter of the King!

    Hey Nina!
Thank you for your great articles! We used to read Proverbs every day with our kids several years ago. I just loved it! Perhaps we need to change the “used to” to “we are!” 🙂
    Thanks for the reminder!

So glad you are here, Julia! And you are right, if it’s good then, it’s good now! 🙂 Think I’ll do this with the kiddos, too. 🙂
      Love to you, gorgeous!
