It’s a Matter of Trust …

Saturday night, my daughter and I watched a movie together. With the testosterone-laden beings vacating the premises due to Boy Scout Camp, we succumbed to popcorn and estrogenic activities such as hair brushing, back scratches, and a slumber party.

We watched “Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” a C.S. Lewis story from the Narnia series told well in film form. Our emotions surged with the adventuresome tale, and we longed for the heroes and heroine to resist temptations and overcome danger, as we cheered for Aslan, the lion and Jesus figure in the movie.

As movies go, this one captivated our attention, moved our hearts, and filled us with surging adrenaline.

If you haven’t seen it, it’s spectacular – and even if you have seen it, it’s worth seeing again.

When I ran across this verse today, Proverbs 28:26:

He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, but he who walks wisely will be delivered.

I thought back to the movie. How easily our feelings roused for people we’ve never met, who weren’t even real! And then I realized, “Those same emotions can be riled up from our interpretation of our environment, our perceptions of other people’s intentions and behaviors.”

In other words, we spend a good chunk of time in the average day believing lies.

“Walking wisely” means not trusting our feelings. It means reflectively listening to garner nuggets of Truth before reacting emotionally.

We live in this culture where sexual images assault us all day long. If we judge our society by the pervasive messages of sexual behaviors communicated via the media, we’d think this a primary activity in our culture. A study released recently by the Barna Group says otherwise. Nearly one-third of all marriages are considered, “sexless,” where couples engage in intimacy 10 or less times a year.

Bottom line: Don’t believe your feelings and be wise in how you choose to react to what you see and hear.

And as an aside, make your marriage healthier… more frequently than 10 times a year. 🙂

Dare ya!

And here’s a link to the rest of Proverbs 28: http://classic.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=proverbs%2028&version=NASB

Double-dog dare you to read it yourself, and see what else He has for you today. 🙂

Thankful to be on the journey with you!
