“Am I being abused?” my client asked.
Second time this week someone has asked me that.
I remember asking a therapist the same question many many years ago…
Bet my husband asked the same thing.
This post isn’t about domestic partner violence, btw. If that’s you, reach out and let’s get you some specific help.
But the two clients that asked me that recently… what was going on for them?
Consistently being yelled at for over twenty minutes to an hour, name calling, discounting concerns, criticizing, demanding behaviors, feeling discouraged.
No one should have to endure that kind of treatment.
Over time, it’s hard to bear up under.
Has the serious potential to tear a person down, for sure.
What’s also true is that neither they nor I (nor most of my clients) had healthy boundaries.
Relatable?
If so, I hate that for you. And at the same time, maybe there IS something you haven’t tried. Like these two clients, perhaps you love God, want to save your marriage, but have no idea what more to do.
Maybe you are finally ready to do some hard work, things you haven’t heard of before, to figure out how to turn things around. Maybe you’re ready to invest in something because you’ve done the “free” and while some good things have happened, of course can’t get there from here.
Reach out with “Ready!” if that’s you.
As for these clients I mentioned above, the shocking thing is they are MEN.
I work with both husbands and wives. I will honestly say this, while they are different, both people in a couple are often being useful to the enemy in wounding their partner.
Let’s stop that cycle.
If you are ready for something different, email me at coachnina(at)greaterimpact.org or just reply if this came through your inbox, and I’ll let you know if we can help.
Love to you,
Nina
