YES. God really DOES give you more than you can handle.
And I’m sorry if that hurts to hear.
I can understand why it might.
I have a few friends who are grieving losses right now… one thinks that the grieving means the end, but she will soon see it is a point of acceptance that’s needed before being able to move onto the next thing.
Like pulling out the dead wood, cleaning out the weeds and brush before trying to plant anew each spring, the old often needs to go before the new can take root and grow.
Ever heard that God doesn’t give you more than you can handle?
That’s just not true. It’s a myth.
What’s the point of God if He isn’t needed?
I mean think about that.
“God will never give you more than you can handle,” is a myth, complete rubbish, and honestly, one of the more discouraging sayings out there.
It implies if I’m struggling, that it’s because there is something deficit in me, something I’m not capable of doing, that I’m flawed – and while that’s all actually TRUE – it is also NORMAL and how humans were created in the first place!
I’m wired to NEED GOD.
So are you.
I know people who say it are well meaning, trying to encourage.
It still isn’t right.
We DO need God. So of course He would allow things we can’t do on our own, otherwise, we would likely get super comfortable in our own capabilities.
So join me, and stop saying it!
Sometimes, even when we KNOW we need God, it can seem like He isn’t answering our prayers. We wonder if it’s more than not liking the answer He may be giving, we think He isn’t responding at all.
That’s the WORST.
